Our engineering hub is in Cairo, so we have a stake in this question. We have tried to show clearly where Poland or India is the better fit.
TL;DR
- Saudi buyers. Egypt shares the Sunday–Thursday week and sits 0 to 1 hour behind Riyadh.
- EU buyers. Poland needs no GDPR transfer mechanism; Egypt adds cost savings at near-identical hours.
- US buyers. None of the 3 gives full overlap; Egypt and Poland cover East Coast mornings.
- Scale. India offers the deepest pool for very large programmes, with shifted hours for Western clients.
Original insight in this post Egypt’s cost position is measured against the published rates of comparable vetted-talent vendors in the GCC, Europe and the US (Remote Pro Ai price benchmark, October 2026), not against salary surveys.
The comparison at a glance
| Factor | Egypt | Poland | India |
|---|---|---|---|
| UTC offset | UTC+2; UTC+3 in summer | UTC+1; UTC+2 in summer | UTC+5:30; no daylight saving |
| Standard working week | Sunday–Thursday | Monday–Friday | Monday–Friday |
| Overlap with Riyadh, 09:00–17:00 | 7–8 hours | 6–7 hours | 5.5 hours |
| Overlap with Berlin, 09:00–17:00 | 7–8 hours | 8 hours | 3.5–4.5 hours |
| Overlap with New York, 09:00–17:00 | About 1 hour; more with shifted rosters | About 2 hours | None without shifted hours |
| Relative cost, equal seniority | Remote Pro Ai base rates: at least 30% below the GCC median of comparable vetted-talent vendors, 37–47% below the European and US medians (price benchmark, October 2026) | Highest of the 3 | Lowest headline rates, widest spread |
| Arabic | Native | Rare | Rare |
| Personal data law | Law No. 151 of 2020 | GDPR | DPDP Act 2023 |
| EU adequacy decision | No | Not needed: EU member | No |
overlap assumes both sides work 09:00–17:00 local time; daylight-saving dates differ, so figures move by up to an hour for a few weeks each year. Egypt’s cost position comes from the Remote Pro Ai price benchmark (October 2026), which re-runs every October.
Cost
Egypt. Remote Pro Ai’s base monthly rates for vetted Mid, Senior and Lead engineers are at least 30% below the median published by comparable vetted-talent vendors serving the GCC, and 37–47% below the European and US medians (Remote Pro Ai price benchmark, October 2026). Salaries are paid in Egyptian pounds, while export contracts are usually priced in USD or EUR, which keeps rates stable for buyers.
Poland. Of the 3, Poland has the highest rates, reflecting a decade of wage growth inside the EU single market. Buyers pay for proximity and regulatory comfort.
India. Headline rates are typically the lowest of the 3, but the spread between vendors is the widest. Compare vetting depth and replacement terms, not just price.

Time zones and the working week
For Saudi buyers, Egypt is the only one of the 3 that shares the Sunday–Thursday week, giving 5 shared working days. Poland and India share 4, Monday to Thursday.
For UAE buyers, the UAE moved to a Monday–Friday week in 2022, so Poland and India align on days, while Egypt sits closer in hours: 1 to 2 hours behind Dubai.
For European buyers, Poland matches Central European Time exactly. Egypt is 0 to 1 hour ahead. Teams serving Europe from Cairo commonly roster Monday to Friday, fixed in the Statement of Work.
For US buyers, plan around shifted hours wherever you hire. Check your own numbers with the time-zone overlap tool.
A week for a Cairo team with a Riyadh client
- Daily. A short stand-up at 09:30 Riyadh time, which is 09:30 or 08:30 in Cairo depending on the season.
- Sunday. Sprint planning with the product owner.
- Thursday. Demo and sprint review before the shared week ends.
- Weekly. A one-page team health report: velocity, quality, risks and people.
Talent and language
Egypt produces large numbers of engineering graduates each year and has a growing pool of senior specialists in backend, mobile, cybersecurity and game development. Remote Pro Ai alone runs vetted specialists from Egypt and the Gulf, including AI and data and cybersecurity specialists. Native Arabic matters for Arabic-first UX, Arabic language models and government documentation.
Poland has a deep pool in Java, C++, .NET, embedded systems and games, with English widely used in tech.
India has the largest engineering pool of the 3 and a mature ecosystem of global capability centres, strongest for large enterprise platforms and data programmes. Arabic speakers are rare in all but Egypt.
Compliance
EU buyers. Poland is inside the EU, so no transfer mechanism is needed. Egypt and India have no EU adequacy decision, so transfers need standard contractual clauses and a transfer impact assessment. DORA and NIS2 duties stay with you wherever the team sits.
Saudi buyers. All 3 countries are outside the Kingdom, so PDPL transfer rules apply to each. Roles that need production personal data are best staffed in-Kingdom. Read our Saudi PDPL guide.
Local law. Egypt’s Personal Data Protection Law No. 151 of 2020 and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 govern processing locally; check implementation status with counsel.

When Poland or India is the better choice
Choose Poland when your board or regulator wants processing inside the EU, or your team must work Central European hours exactly. Choose India when you need very large teams quickly across enterprise platforms, and can manage with 3.5 to 5.5 hours of overlap. Choose Egypt when you need Gulf alignment, Arabic, or European hours at lower cost.
A 10-step checklist
- Fix your required overlap in hours per day, and your working week.
- List the languages your users and stakeholders need, including Arabic and right-to-left interfaces.
- Map which personal data the team will touch, and whether it comes from Saudi Arabia, the UAE or the EU.
- Check whether a sector rule requires any data to stay in your country.
- For EU buyers, decide whether in-EU processing is a board or regulator requirement.
- Identify roles that need on-site staff or count toward localisation targets.
- Estimate how many engineers you need over 12 months, on how many stacks, and flag scarce skills.
- Compare fully loaded monthly cost at the same level, not headline rates.
- Check the vendor’s bench depth, replacement terms and any mixed remote and on-site option.
- Run a no-bill trial before committing to a long term.
